Global biodiversity assessments need to consider mixed multifunctional land-use systems

چکیده
Global scenario-based modelling efforts to support biodiversity policies typically consider agriculture only as a pressure factor. Current scenarios include the expansion of protected areas combined with higher agricultural productivity (as in land sparing) for reducing loss. We argue favour broader perspective on farming practices and, specifically, scenario studies mixed multifunctional systems, applicable land-sharing approaches. The increasing availability monitoring data and capacity opens up opportunities more comprehensive quantification intricate network relationships between management, ecosystem services thus, enables balanced evaluation benefits trade-offs sparing sharing their intermediates.

Land-use, Land-cover Changes and Biodiversity Loss
During Earth's history, species extinction has probably been caused by modifications of the physical environment after impacts such as meteorites or volcanic activity. On the contrary, the actual extinction of species is mainly a result of human activities, namely any form of land use that causes the conversion of vast areas to settlement, agriculture, and forestry, resulting in habitat destruc...

A view from the EULAR Standing Committee of People with Arthritis/Rheumatism in Europe (SCPARE) on some of the issues that patients might wish to consider about biosimilars in shared decision-making discussions with their rheumatologist. The paper also points to the need for more information on biosimilars being made available in lay language.
متن کاملGlobal consequences of land use.
Land use has generally been considered a local environmental issue, but it is becoming a force of global importance. Worldwide changes to forests, farmlands, waterways, and air are being driven by the need to provide food, fiber, water, and shelter to more than six billion people. Global croplands, pastures, plantations, and urban areas have expanded in recent decades, accompanied by large incr...
متن کاملHas land use pushed terrestrial biodiversity beyond the planetary boundary? A global assessment.
Land use and related pressures have reduced local terrestrial biodiversity, but it is unclear how the magnitude of change relates to the recently proposed planetary boundary ("safe limit"). We estimate that land use and related pressures have already reduced local biodiversity intactness--the average proportion of natural biodiversity remaining in local ecosystems--beyond its recently proposed ...
متن کاملIt Will Take a Global Movement to Curb Corruption in Health Systems; Comment on “We Need to Talk About Corruption in Health Systems”
Corruption in health systems is a problem around the world. Prior research consistently shows that corruption is detrimental to population health. Yet public health professionals are slow to address this complicated issue on a global scale. In the editorial entitled “We Need to Talk About Corruption in Health Systems” concern with the general lack of discourse on this topic amongst health profe...
